Edition 37 | February 2022

Hello Mountain Wine Club!

For the February 2022 Mountain Wine Club shipment, we're sending wine from two top-tier Napa and Australian appellations: 2018 Mt. Brave Zinfandel from Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley and 2018 Hickinbotham Trueman Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hickinbotham Vineyard in Australia.

Much like bears that hibernate during the winter, so do the vineyards. As the temperature begins to drop and the leaves change from green to red, the vines undergo their transformation into dormancy. This is a crucial time for the vines to use their stored energy for root expansion to soak up the necessary nutrients in the soil for bud-break and bloom in the spring.

In 2018, Napa experienced late winter rains and intermittent cloudy skies that delayed bud-break but gave way to ideal fruit conditions. With only a few short heat spikes, summer ushered in a near-perfect fall. Australia had consistent winter rains and a dry summer that led to an earlier than normal harvest date. Although harvest was expedited, the vines created grapes with concentrated flavors and balanced acidity. The rewards of the 2018 harvest are present in the complexities of the 2018 Mt. Brave Zinfandel and the 2018 Hickinbotham Trueman Cabernet Sauvignon.

We look forward to sharing each of these delectable wines with you. Enjoy!

Peace,

2018 Mt. Brave
Mt. Brave Vineyard Zinfandel

Mt. Veeder, Napa Valley, CA

“There’s an interplay of dark cherry, pepper and floral aromas that leap from the glass. Fresh acidity carries the savory mid-palate to a long complex finish buttressed by fine Mt. Veeder tannins. This is truly a mountain Zin!”

“A great wine from our Hickinbotham Vineyard, its nuance and delicacy shows in notes of red fruit, mint and olive tapenade. The flavors, structure and balance are truly everything you could hope for in a great example of Cabernet. I think Clarendon is one of the great areas for Bordeaux varieties in the world and this wine really shows that potential.”
