Greetings from the Mountain Wine Club!
We completed another rugged mountainside harvest here in the Napa Valley. Our Howell Mountain and Mt. Veeder vineyards sit between 1,400 and 1,825 feet, making each harvest a strenuous one that has proven to be well worth it with every sip of our full-bodied, luxurious mountain wines. With this shipment we bring you two of our best offerings from Howell Mountain and Mt. Veeder—the 2010 La Jota W.S. Keyes Vineyard Merlot and the 2013 Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2010 La Jota W.S. Keyes Vineyard Merlot comes from the oldest and most prized block of the W.S. Keyes Vineyard on Howell Mountain. This Merlot has intense dark cherry, dark chocolate, espresso bean, and kirsch notes, with a rich texture and long finish. This truly is a what we like to call a Cabernet drinker’s Merlot.
The 2013 Mt. Brave Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is quintessential Mt. Veeder—exhibiting characteristics of blueberry, with floral notes and minerality. This wine has great texture and very approachable mountain tannins. The 2013 vintage is considered by many to be one of the finest in recent history, with early budbreak, steady summer weather, and ideal harvest conditions.
