The mountains of Napa Valley create some of the most sought-after wines in the world. These unique mountain appellations challenge the vineyard and winemaking teams to achieve perfection in a constantly defiant locale.
Both Mt. Brave’s Mt. Veeder and La Jota’s Howell Mountain have histories that date back centuries to the Native Americans, span through the Gold Rush, and reach on to today. The two mountains share a storied past with similar elevations and topography, yet they vary vastly in geological and meteorological features that express themselves uniquely in the wines they produce.
The soil, the slope, the climate, and the sun exposure each impart a character to the wine that is specific to its mountain location. For this reason, we have created the Mountain Wine Club to give you the opportunity to explore our wines side-by-side, affording you the ability to gain a deeper understanding of their diversity through tasting and collecting.
As a member, you will be invited to exclusive activities on the mountaintops, where few have ventured, with Winemaker Chris Carpenter. Your cellar will be enhanced with limited releases and library wines that most have never had the chance to taste.

Originally from Chicago, Chris has a curious mind meant for exploring. After graduating from the University of Illinois with a BS in biology and then an MBA in international business and marketing, a chance visit to the Napa Valley captured his imagination. He soon had earned an MS in viticulture and enology from the University of California, Davis.
Chris then gained experience through a prestigious research internship at Tenute Antinori in Tuscany and further study at Università per Stranieri di Perugia as well as working as a harvest enologist at Domaine Carneros Winery and vineyard intern at Domain Chandon, both in the Napa Valley. These experiences led to the development of an old world sensibility paired with a new world sense of ambition and insight.
Chris makes his home in Napa Valley with his wife and daughters, taking the pulse of a great winegrowing region with regular stints behind the planks at the Rutherford Grill.
Each season we carefully select the La Jota and Mt. Brave wines that will comprise the
next Mountain Wine Club shipment. Here is an example of one of our recent offerings.
